Darkman (Vol. 1)

Lawyer Julie Hastings unknowingly left a document behind when she visited her lover, Peyton Westlake, at his lab. The document belonged to Louis Strack, a rich builder, and would have greatly incriminated him. Strack wanted the document back. Badly. So he sent a mobster around to Westlake’s lab to recover it—and to kill Westlake.

The mobster set off an explosion that ruined the labs and nearly killed Westlake. Westlake survived, but was horribly burned all over his face and body. The disfiguration cut deep, however, and the normally gentle Westlake became obsessed with revenge. Using a skin replacement technology he had developed, he made a series of masks which let him assume the identity of others. The disguises let him take apart Strack’s organization from the inside, but there was one problem: the masks fell apart when exposed to the sun. As a result, Peyton was forced to become a denizen of the dark…Darkman.
