Spider-Man: The Death of Captain Stacy

    (Marvel, 2000)
™ and ©2000 Marvel Characters, Inc.

This book collects issues #88, 89 and 90 of Volume One of the Amazing Spider-Man originally printed in 1970. Essentially this is a Spider-Man-versus-Doctor-Octopus story that contained the surprise ending in which Gwen Stacy’s father, Captain George Stacy, was accidentally killed saving a young boy from falling bricks. The title of this collection however makes any surprise unrealistic.

Captain Stacy’s death was a significant event since he was the father of Spider-Man’s girlfriend Gwen and Spider-Man was involved in the fight that led to his death. Reprinted in the summer of 2000, this story, written by Stan Lee with art by John Romita Sr. and Gil Kane evokes a simpler era before the Spider-Man plotlines became a confusing collection of clones necessitating a reboot in 1998.
