Supergirl: Wings

    (DC, 2001)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics

Although commonly touched upon in comics, the subjects of heaven and hell, God and Satan are sometimes addressed like a WWF wrestling match, with a choice being as simple as picking a side and swinging your fists. To some though, the choices aren’t simple, nor are the sides distinct, nor are the victories and defeats all they appear to be.

When Matrix begins to doubt her role as an angel, the age-old struggle between the light and the darkness begins, with Linda Danvers at the center of it all. Jean Marc DeMatteis has long been a philosophic comic writer and with this Elseworlds one-shot he ups the ante. Although nominally a Supergirl story about heaven and hell, it’s also a lesson in understanding how little difference exists between the two.
