Emo Boy

B&W

For the tragically unhip, “emo” (short for “emotional,” natch) means being filled with every emotion at once, and feeling them all with extreme intensity. Our star, Emo Boy, is a teenager whose emo sometimes explodes with unpredictable results. During most of Emo Boy’s adventures, he manages to put himself in some type of danger for the sake of humiliation (and comedy). But this is acceptable, because emos see themselves as misunderstood, unappreciated victims. That’s why they’re special.

Writer/artist Steve Emond portrays the nerdy and bespectacled Emo boy as a self-involved narcissist, and the emo movement as a cousin to the Goth—only whinier.
