Marines in Battle

The marines have long been our nation’s most versatile fighting force, taking on the enemy (as the song says) “on air, on land, and sea.” This makes them versatile heroes for war comics, as well, allowing writers to set their adventures virtually any time in the past two hundred years, and in any campaign or mission.

Marines in Battle does just that, with daring adventures set from the Civil War to the then-raging war in Korea. As befits the times, Marines in Battle took particular aim at Communist forces, whether in China, Korea, or elsewhere. And while the stories were rarely “true to life,” they were universally well-illustrated by a cadre of artists including Reed Crandall, Al Williamson, and Russ Heath.
