Spartan: Warrior Spirit
(Image, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Aegis Entertainment, Inc.
Spartan is the leader of the Daemonite-fighting super-team, the WildC.A.T.s. This title, written by Astro City creator Kurt Busiek, features Spartan in his first solo-series.
Spartan is actually a consciousness in a synthetic body. When Spartan is hurt beyond repair, his memories are simply transplanted into a new body. He usually “wakes up” in his new body at WildC.A.T.s headquarters. That is, until one disastrous battle against the Daemonites in which Spartan stayed behind to allow his teammates to escape. When he awakes, he is in an ancient land without his previous memories, which causes him to be highly susceptible to suggestion. A man named Doctor Able tells Spartan that he is actually Zachary Krieger, defender of Able’s fortress. The fort is constantly attacked by evil forces who want Able’s technical secrets. Spartan agrees to help—for now—but is he truly fighting for the right side?
