American Splendor: Comic-Con Comics

    (Dark Horse, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Harvey Pekar

Cleveland’s best-known hospital file clerk is on the loose in the wacky world of comic fandom! Harvey Pekar, the leading practitioner of autobiographical comics (or “neo-realism,” as Dark Horse would have it), has been recording his life in comics for years. Now he and his wife Joyce Brabner get invited to the San Diego Comic Con to accept an award for their graphic novel Our Cancer Year. So Harvey’s off to sunny Southern California to see old friends, watch free cable, and maybe make a buck or two.

Follow Harvey’s adventures as he meets the fans, has an uncomfortable encounter with Matt Groening, and makes a new friend: telemarketer/T-shirt bootlegger/comics hustler Kapitan Kartoon! Just goes to show how real life is even more bizarre than the comics, when you look at it. All stories written by Harvey Pekar, with art by Scott A. Gilbert and others.
