Pryde & Wisdom

Kitty Pryde is a former member of the X-Men, and current leader of Excalibur. She’s a mutant with the ability to “phase” through solid objects. Pete Wisdom is an English Secret Service agent assigned to Excalibur, as well as a mutant himself with the ability to throw solar energy “knives” from his hands. Wisdom is a bit of a rogue with a fondness for pubs and cigarettes. He also has a fondness for Kitty, and she a fondness for him. Their smoldering relationship is a nice, human counterpoint to the dark mystery they are sent to solve in this three-issue mini-series.

A serial killer is loose in the London area. His methods are particularly bizarre—the victims are found in a state of fossilization with strange, runic letters found carved into the bodies. For his part, the mutant killer sees himself as a sinner engaged in an act of contrition—writing a letter of apology to God in what he thinks is God’s own language.
