Marvel Fanfare (2nd Series)

    (Marvel, 1996–1997)
™ and ©1996 Marvel Entertainment Group

In its first incarnation in 1982, Marvel Fanfare was an upscale, higher priced, prestigious anthology title that boasted work by such fan favorites as Michael Golden, Charles Vess, and P. Craig Russell. It was printed on slick paper when other Marvel comics were still used newsprint, and cost $1.25 as opposed to the 60¢ price tag of the regular books.

Fourteen years later, Marvel Fanfare returned. Though still an anthology title with stories featuring Marvel favorites such as Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and the Incredible Hulk, it is now a training ground for up-and-coming artists, rather than as a showcase for renowned ones. And in 1996, it was one of the few comics that used newsprint and cost only 99 cents.
