No doubt inspired by Classics Illustrated, Marvel Comics decided to produce their own line of Marvel Classics Comics in the years between 1976 and 1978. The stories were comics adaptations of some of the great stories of literature. The series kicked off with an adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and moved on to present tales ranging from The Odyssey to The Pit and The Pendulum. In all, the series ran thirty six issues, bringing adventure and horror stories from conventional fiction into the four-color world of comics.
