Hawkeye (1st Series)

    (Marvel, 1983, 1988)
™ and ©1983 Marvel Entertainment Group

Hawkeye got his start as Clint Barton, a runaway who decided to join the circus. Under the tutelage of the Swordsman, Clint honed his skills with the bow and arrow to a razor’s edge, learning trick shots that made him a star attraction. One day Clint discovered the Swordsman had been looting the carnival pay chest. Clint rejected the Swordsman’s offer to join in his life of crime, eventually deciding instead to become the hero known as Hawkeye.

Originally appearing in Tales of Suspense #57 (where he was mistaken as a villain), Hawkeye soon cleared things up and joined the Avengers in Avengers #16. After twenty years of adventuring, in and out of the Avengers, he finally appeared in this, his own limited series. This saga introduces him to Mockingbird, the woman he would eventually marry, and sets the stage for the founding of the West Coast Avengers.
