Captain America Goes to War Against Drugs

In 1990, Marvel teamed up with the FBI to produce this educational comic with the goal of helping keep kids off drugs. Nevertheless, this special is commendable for its non-“preachy” tone in tackling a serious subject.

The plot centers around an alien race (the Tzin) who are observing Earth to see if it can be conquered. The Tzin fear the earthlings’ fighting spirit, but sense that there may be a way to win victory—if they can conquer the Earthlings from within. To test whether or not this is possible, they decide to tempt four random youths with drugs. The one shown here is a promising pitcher for a local baseball team. When the pressure of pitching weighed too hard on him he tried “a little something” offered to him by a mysterious man. Luckily, with some help from Captain America, he comes to realize that what the mysterious man was offering was nothing but trouble.
