Mention the name Robert E. Howard to any comics fan he or she will likely tell you about Conan the Barbarian, or perhaps Kull the Conqueror, his more famous creations. But thorough fantasy readers will make you aware that Howard created a number of sword-wielding warriors and who better than Roy Thomas to bring to comicdom yet more fantastic adaptations of his works—this time in a four-issue black and white mini-series from Dark Horse featuring Cormac Mac Art. Unlike Conan or Kull, who both come from a time before recorded history, Cormac is much more contemporary, an Irishman living in the days around the fall of the Roman Empire.

Cormac is sailing with Danish pirates on a mission to rescue the daughter of some Briton ruler. Their search takes them to an island called Golmara where they must fight Picts, Vikings, satyrs, sorcery and other monstrosities…what’s a fantasy tale without monsters, magic and maidens?
