Spider-Man: Friends & Enemies
(Marvel, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc.
This limited series expands on the formula used in Deadly Foes of Spider-Man and Lethal Foes of Spider-Man. Not to put too fine a point on it, it’s a four-issue-long battle royale, as Spider-Man tries to aid a collection of newly formed “Metahumes.” The Metahumes are people with superhuman powers, which they acquired by coming into contact with strange crystals brought from space by Darkhawk.
There are others who would seek both the Metahumes and the crystals’ power for their own ends, and Spider-Man is joined by New Warriors members Darkhawk, Nova, and Speedball in protecting them. In the end, they discover that the crystals themselves posses a certain intelligence, as well as a singular goal—to assimilate all life into their crystalline mass.
