(From the Slings & Arrows Comic Guide)

This is an unusual World War II serial killer story, written by Chris Dows and Colin Clayton, and illustrated by Horus in a rather lumpen but striking black-and-white style. The emphasis is on a young boy who becomes obsessed with a killer who only strikes during the autumn, and only murders in the London Underground, and begins tracking him down. However, by the end of #2 it’s turned into a historical version of the X-Files, with the boy, grown up, donning a costume to track down the inhuman creature he thinks has been living down in the sewers. In the final issue, although it’s atmospherically drawn by Horus, things go further astray as the serial killer is revealed. After an effectively short and unspectacular struggle, and a great deal of emotional language, there’s a neat and poetic end to an interesting but rather wavering storyline. ~FJ
