The Outlaw Kid (2nd Series)

In the early 1970s, Marvel launched a number of western adventure titles including including The Western Kid and The Outlaw Kid, joining established favorites such as the Rawhide Kid and Kid Colt Outlaw. If the names of these titles sound similar, it should come as no surprise that the contents were also virtually interchangeable. All starred a good-looking gunslinger who fought for justice but was usually hunted as an outlaw due to some previous misunderstandings with the law.

For his part, the Outlaw Kid was practically a Clark Kent in cowboy boots. Most of the time he was plain old Lance Temple, dutiful son to his blind father, “Hoot” Temple, and very much a low-key, peaceful fellow. When danger threatened, however, he changed outfits and drew a bandana over his face to disguise his features. In that guise he was the Outlaw Kid, a firebrand with twin pistols (which, naturally, he used only to disarm—not kill).
