Just Imagine Stan Lee With Dave Gibbons Creating Green Lantern

    (DC, 2001)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics

Comicdom’s greatest crossover continues as Marvel Comics godfather Stan Lee reinvents DC’s own resident ringslinger. In the fourth installment of the “Just Imagine” storyline (Lee’s interpretations of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman preceded this), archeologist Leonard Lewis is shot and left for dead by the minions of world-beater Dominic Darrk. Lewis sinks into a strange green bog and finds himself the recipient of incredible power from a deity known only as the Tree of Life. Lewis is imbued with the life force of the Earth itself which, aside from turning him green, also gives him the power to do whatever he wills. Like most of Lee’s other “Just Imagine” work, you’ll probably find yourself wanting to like this a lot more than you actually do. It’s no comparison to Lee’s glory days at Marvel, but it’s hard to turn your back on it at the same time. Dave Gibbons’ (Watchmen) work is masterful as always.
