The Incredibles

In this four issue adaptation of the Disney/Pixar blockbuster The Incredibles, we are introduced to a whole new universe of super–heroes and master villains. But this isn’t your grandpa’s super–hero world. In the world of The Incredibles things have gone drastically wrong—victims of crime and super–villain evil—have began to sue the very heroes who have protected them! In a compromise, the government has given amnesty to the hounded heroes in exchange for their vow to retire from the crime–fighting, vigilante lifestyle.

And so, years later, we find Bob Parr and his family living an average, boring American suburban life. That is until someone figures out that Bob Parr was once Mr. Incredible! Hang on to your seats, kids! The fun’s just about to start!

From the Comics Buyer’s Guide:

Based on the smash cinematic blockbuster, this graphic novelization recounts the reawakening of dormant heroism that has seemingly been stifled by social conformity and lowered mid-life expectations. Bob Parr, his wife Helen, daughter Violet, son Dash, and baby Jack-Jack grapple with the banality of a comfortable suburban existence and yearn to reaffirm their individuality by expressing their unique “super”-powers.

Burdened by a bulging belly and legal ostracism, Parr relieves his youth with his pal Frozone by surreptitiously performing minor do-gooding. But, when the mysterious Mirage makes him an offer he can’t refuse, Parr squeezes back into his outfit. After discovering his discarded sidekick is now the villain Syndrome and is seeking revenge, can his family rescue Mr. Incredible from the dangerous isle of Nomanisan and their hometown of Municiburg from the evolving Omnidroid 9000?

Unlike most movie adaptations, this succeeds in both being faithful to and expanding the original plotline. It helps when the artist is a Pixar storyboarder and the writer is the film’s director. Serving up high quality art and narrative, this tale lives up to expectations.
