Legion Secret Files 3003

The DC Secret Files comics have gotten formulaic. There are a couple of short stories interspersed with “Who’s Who” pages. Legion Secret Files 3003 breaks this mold, not just with its futuristic date.

For starters, there is just one story. The “Who’s Who” pages are not really viable for a cast as large as The Legion, so they have been dispensed with. Instead, bio blurbs have been incorporated within the story.

This is not as intrusive an exposition device as one might think. The story is presented as a 31st century media feature, something of a cross between “pop-up” videos and a website with links. Every scene that introduces a new batch of Legionnaires has “pop-ups” with their names, powers, home planets, and other relevant information. This may not be as in-depth as the usual format but it is more appropriate for the huge cast and is enough to bring newcomers up to speed.

There is very telling information to be discerned, such as the impact of Superboy’s arrival in the future.

The issue opens and closes with what appears to be a new generation of the Servants of Darkness. Can this be a new “Great Darkness Saga” for a new Legion?
