Oktane is a big charcoal-black bodyguard in post-industrial near-future Detroit, providing the muscle for some of the road-warrior type gangsters who dominate the society. Writer Gerald Jones weaves an extremely dense, information-heavy plot that takes Oktane to the ruins of Las Vegas and elsewhere in the course of the four-part mini-series. Gene Ha uses exaggerated anatomy and caricature-like figures against extremely detailed and moody backgrounds to add visual complexity to Jones’ panoramic narrative. Oktane provides a good mix of story, big art, and action— enough to sustain excitement through the four-issue story arc.
