Epileptic

Given his self–declared propensity for drawing elaborate battle scenes, David B. pens a thick tome where almost all of the conflict is internalized, as his brother battles the almost supernatural presence of epilepsy in his life and the entire family is dragged into the fray. Granted, there are a number of battle scenes (part of the book’s highly stylized symbolism and representation), but they’re meant to comfort and reassure the author by placing him in the midst of the stories that excited him as a boy. The real horror comes when the inky bloom of an epileptic fit paints his brother’s face, flattening his features and making him look like a radioactive tiger. A book quite unlike most autobiographical comics and well worth reading.
