The T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Companion
(TwoMorrows, 2005)
™ and © 2005 John A. Carbonaro
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agent fans, unite! This 40th anniversary celebration is what you’ve been waiting for.
Since Wally Wood was asked to create a team concept that took the best of James Bond and Marvel’s Avengers and X-Men, The T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents have been part of a mythos that inspired creators of four decades.
Where did their powers originate? What is the publishing history? Who are the artists behind the stories? What are their stories? Terry Austin? You mean he’s in this book, too?
Yep. They’re here. For the fan who remembers the original series from the late ’60s (Even the coverless comics are gold to me!), this companion edition is invaluable. Jon Cooke does a great job of compiling the story of the Agents from Day 1 (1965) to the present. Comments from Wally Wood, Gil Kane, Mike Sekowsky, Paul Gulacy, Ogden Whitney, George Tuska, Keith Giffen, and at least 35 others are included.
You’ve gotta love the art that decorates the pages. Sketches, finished versions, and even unpublished tales (read the last 20-plus pages) add much to this labor of love.
