Wild Animals

    (Pacific, 1982)
™ and ©1982 Pacific Comics and the characters’ respective creators

Scott Shaw’s Wild Animals is a very funny one-shot featuring the best in funny animal comics. Shaw is well known in comic circles as the host of the Chicago Comicon’s Weird Comics round-up, celebrating the best tacky comics over the years. He put the same love of goofiness to work in assembling this menagerie of silly anthropomorphics.

Starting off this special is Shaw’s own “The Land that Time Ignored” starring You-All Gibbon, a country bumpkin who seems to get in the oddest of situations. You-All owns a gigantic pet that is half canine and half Godzilla. Its name, you ask? Dogzilla, of course. In this story, “You-All” searches for friends lost while hunting for Pigfoot, and winds up in a lost land populated by dinosaurs. Other features include Jim Engels’ Lackluster Lizard and Harry Canary; Larry (Cartoon History of the Universe) Gonick’s Bronty; and Sergio (Groo) Aragonés’ “A Short Story.”)
