Moon Knight: Divided We Fall

Bruce Jones proved he could write a taut mystery thriller with Somerset Holmes, and he returns to that mood here with a decent page-turner set in the mid 1980s. The basic plot is lifted straight from The Manchurian Candidate, with Frenchie and Marlene playing the parts of the unwitting dupes, and Mikhail Gorbachev replacing the president. Denys Cowan emulates Gene Colan in the art style, and there’s even the return of an old foe of Moon Knight’s who wants revenge. One could question whether the characterization serves the story a little too conveniently in places at the cost of previously established patterns. This is particularly apparent when Frenchie and Marlene both leave Moon Knight over relatively trivial matters in rapid succession. Overall, though, this is definitely one of the better Moon Knight stories of its time.
