For four issues following the “Age of Apocalypse” crossover that ran through the various X-Men titles, Generation X changed its name to Generation Next. The four-issue run took place in a future where Apocalypse was the absolute ruler, and mankind lived in fear of his legion of genetically enhanced soldiers.

In this fearful future, Magneto was raising a crew of mutants with the goal of one day overthrowing Apocalypse. This was “Generation Next,” a team of youngsters with powers that set them apart from humankind, but with the conscience and will to avoid joining in the genocide that Apocalypse had ushered in.
