Minimum Security

Stephanie McMillan’s short black and white cartoons embody the millennial and post-9/11 political dissatisfactions of the American left: capitalism, carnivorism, consumerism, militarism, Zionism, George W. Bushism, et cetera.

Like other collections of political cartoons in the Attitude series edited by Ted Rall (See Attitude Featuring Andy Singer), McMillan’s brand of satire emphasizes derision over wit, and makes exhaustive use of situational irony. The cartoons aren’t so much funny as angry, and the anger isn’t so much inspiring as self-satisfied.
