The Untold Legend of Captain Marvel

This 1997 mini-series finally tells the story of Captain Mar-Vell’s life before he came to the planet Earth. Mar-Vell was a popular war hero of the Kree, a race whose military might was renowned throughout the galaxy. Even then, however, he showed signs of a certain “dissident” nature, for example a preference for saving lives over achieving military objectives.

After one such incident, he was assigned to the imperial cruiser Pama, where he was to join an elite force under the command of Zen-Pram. There he also met two figures who would become key players in his later life: the lovely medical officer Una, and Colonel Yon-Rogg, the Pama’s number two, and Mar-Vell’s future rival.

In this series, the Pama is sent to rescue a missing grand admiral from hostile territory. In doing so, they run afoul of both the Shi-ar, and their age-old enemies, the Skrulls.
