Pulp novel reprints
The successors to the “dime novels” began appearing from the 1920s on. For just a few coins, readers could have inexpensive stories printed on cheap pulp stock paper. Thus was born the “pulps”, a genre of fast-paced stories covering everything from horror to science fiction with some hard hitting detective mysteries thrown in for good measure. They flooded the market in the early half of the twentieth century with classics such as The Shadow and Doc Savage Magazine. Writers such as H.P. Lovecraft and Robert Howard made their marks there. Other writers, such as Asimov and Heinlein, rose from there to become famous and respected authors still loved today.
A title with only nine issues appearing between 1938 and 1940, Mystery Tales gained an infamous reputation for tales of torture and S&M. Now Adventure House brings back those classic books, reprinted with all the ads and very suggestive illustrations as they were seen decades ago, but on slightly better paper.
