Tammas

Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass (a.k.a. Alice in Wonderland) and the world of comics come crashing together to create Tammas—the independent title from Pandemonium Press. Borrowing from the time-honored classic’s fantasy angle, the creation of this black and white, 32-page story was obviously an act of love—not profit—for the book’s writer/artist/creator Fred Rugar. Why else would he have gone to such great lengths to tell his story in a medium so cruel to the self-publisher?

Spanning several generations, Tammas tells the story of a centuries old struggle between good and evil. A demonic entity known as Bobahn Sith is poised to take over the planet—the fate of humanity rests on a trio of humans (aided by friendly trolls) who hold within their magic crystal rings the power to stop this evil from surfacing. There’s only one problem: The three human warriors are scattered across the world with no idea of each other’s whereabouts. What ensues is a time traveling, globetrotting (teleporting from place to place via mirrors) and demon-bashing tale of epic proportions (as only comics from the 1980s know how to tell).
