Jack Cole’s Plastic Man is one of the oldest and most-loved comic super-heroes. Originally appearing in 1941, DC brings this stretchable crimefighter into the current day in this four-issue mini-series. Along the way, they amend his origin slightly, and play up his comedic aspects.

In this series, Plastic Man was once a criminal named “Eel” O’Brian. Wounded in a break-in gone wrong, he fell into a vat of an experimental acid which had the effect of making his body act as if it were made of rubber. Confused by this sudden turn of events, Eel decided to ask his gang for advice, only to have them shoot at him, then run off in terror. The only friend he could find was a mental case named Woozy Winks. Woozy helped cheer Eel up and find him a costume: an old circus outfit. Then they resolved to make their fortune. The only question was, should they do it as criminals or as crimefighters? They flipped a coin to decide…and a hero was born!
