The clandestine Japanese government agency known as the Noh regulates a future world of crime and politics through highly trained female assassins. Kabuki is one of these beautiful, dangerous women with a dirty job. The story’s visual style follows its literary substances. Sparse, bare white rooms, long corridors and closed doors with reflective windows contribute emotional atmosphere to the story. They subtlety communicate to the reader themes of personal identity, paranoia and isolation. Her mask seems to serve two purposes, one for the story and one for the reader. The art seduces the reader into the story and into the minds of the characters. As the story unfolds, one realizes the beautiful panels of art are only the tip of the iceberg.
