DC begins as publisher with issue #47

DC inherited Heart Throbs from Quality Comics in the 1950s and continued to churn out issues until the market for love comics finally dried up in the early 1970s. The stories and art in Heart Throbs were as stiff and formulaic as the worst of the love comic genre could be, but were burnished with the cool professionalism of the DC house style and packaged as a slick and attractive product for the sisters of the readers of DC’s harder-edged super-hero and war comics. The goofy stories and off-the-wall features, including some bizarre fashion tips and love poetry submitted by readers, make Heart Throbs a campy reading experience for modern audiences.

Stories from Heart Throbs and other DC love comics were collected in a “Heart Throbs” trade paperback edition in the late 1970s.
