Moonstone Monsters: Demons
(Moonstone, 2004)
™ and © Moonstone
Moonstone’s ongoing creature feature anthology now turns its unblinking eye on the class of beasties with which humanity has had the most commercial transactions:demons and devils. As with the rest of the line, there are three stories included. “Nocturnal Slave” tells the story of a succubus who gets cold feet at the worst possible time. In the light–hearted “Humanic Possession,” an exorcist tires of repeatedly casting out the same demon and resolves to take drastic action. Both of these are involving, but the final tale, “Lost Loves,” has the most fully realized world. Set in an alternate 1940s where magic is cheap, plentiful and highly addictive, a recovering user finds himself trapped in a nightclub with a devil who feels he's been cheated. The drawing style used in each story matches their moods—impressionistic, cartoony and realistic—very closely.
