Four centuries after the passing of Fireheart, the last chief of the Phoenix Clan able to bind the Clans into a Full Cirkle, the world of Ratai has been consumed by chaos and the disunited clans battle for supremacy. On the day of her coming–of–age ceremony, Ashen, daughter of the current Phoenix chief Ashtur, is led by dreams to climb Spiral Mountain and enter the tomb of Fireheart. As she passes the carvings and hieroglyphs that line the walls of the cenotaph, she receives visions of a terrifying new clan, dedicated to destroying all the others. But when she reaches the center of the tomb, the object she was expecting to find is missing and her ascension is just hours away.
