Ensign Pulver
(Dell, 1964)
™ and © Dell Publishing Co.
Part of the Movie Classics series, Ensign Pulver is the less-successful sequel to the highly successful Mr. Roberts. Released in 1964 with Robert Walker in place of the role originally portrayed by Jack Lemmon (that won him an Oscar), Pulver concerns the continuing adventures of the conman ensign aboard a cargo barge during World War II.
The original movie is interesting for its early feature film appearance by Jack Nicholson, Larry Hagman, and Walter Matthau—interestingly, if Lemmon had resumed his role, this would have been the first onscreen team-up of the infamous Odd Couple pair.
