Millennium was DC’s mega-crossover event of 1988, running for eight weekly issues with dozens of related title crossovers. It was a story which really began billions of years ago, and which would shape the future of Earth for ages to come. Long before intelligent life on Earth, the Oans created a race of androids called the Manhunters to help them enforce order in the universe. After half a billion years, the Manhunters turned on them and the Oans were forced to strip them of power. The Oans tried again, and the result was the Green Lantern Corps.

In the wake of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Oans decided the time had come to create the next generation of immortals. They came to Earth intending to choose ten people for this gift. They needed the aid of Earth’s super-heroes to protect the chosen ones from the Manhunters, which had gained new powers and had been living secretly among humans for generations.
