This three-issue mini-series, “Defend the Earth” tells of how Zen, an alien super-hero, came to do battle against Lord Contaminous. It all started when Zen was hired to retrieve a precious stone and return it to its owners. The stone, however, was no mere diamond or ruby. It was an alien geocrystal that had been buried on this planet by an alien race—and was just dug up by a young Earth boy.

No sooner had the boy picked up his discovery, however, than he was attacked by the monstrous Lord Contaminous. Contaminous, along with his army of living contaminants, sought to pollute the Earth beyond repair. Using a device known as a recyclotron, however, Zen and his new friend used the crystal to form a legion of eco-warriors to battle Contaminous and save the Earth.
