Captain Gravity: The Power of the Vril

Reminiscent of 30s serials and the pulp–fiction adventures of Doc Savage and The Shadow, Captain Gravity and the Power of the Vril is a retro series with a nostalgic yearning for what been a virtually extinct genre. However, filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were able to rejuvenate Saturday matinee clichés with the Indiana Jones movies and Alan Moore found success with the similarly backwards–looking Tom Strong, giving this title a blueprint on how to resurrect the past. Captain Gravity is Joshua Jones, working as a director’s assistant on Gravity flicks while secretly donning the identity himself. Jones became the super–hero after touching a mysterious element in Mexico that gave him powers over gravity. References to the 30s are lovingly presented to give the setting a more authentic feel in this unpretentious and good–natured book.
