Giant-Size Doctor Strange

In the 1970s, Marvel produced a series of giant-size specials entitled—appropriately enough—Giant-Size Avengers, Giant-Size Spider-Man, Giant-Size Defenders, etc. Some of these extra-thick titles featured new stories, while others were made up of reprints.

Giant-Size Doctor Strange no. 1—the only issue of the series—reprints the Doc Strange stories from Strange Tales no. 164-168. This adventure finds Doc saving the world from Baron Mordo and being sent by the Living Tribunal to a far-flung dimension to rescue his beautiful gal-pal, Victoria Bentley. Unfortunately, she’s being held prisoner by Yandroth, Scientist Supreme, so Doc will find his mystical prowess tested by highly advanced technology. Denny O’Neil (Batman) provides the script for this tale of magic versus science, and the artwork is by the incomparable Dan Adkins (Sub-Mariner). Incidentally, Yandroth will figure prominently in the formation of the original Defenders in the early 1970s and their return in 2001.
