Unknown Worlds

The series, “Unknown Worlds,” was published by the American Comic Group and premiered in 1960. The series lasted for 57 issues and featured a very wide variety of odd stories in the science-fiction, monster, and fantasy genres. It was an offshoot of ACG’s other popular titles, Forbidden Worlds and Adventures Into the Unknown.

Debuting in 1960, the stories were handicapped by the constraints of the Comics Code (then very much in force, and prohibiting many of the most popular horror and crime themes). It made up for the lack of artistic freedom, in some ways, by the exceptional imaginations (and sometimes plain weirdness) of its creators, including Ogden Whitney (Herbie), Steve Ditko, Johnny Craig, and Al Williamson, all of whom made contributions to later issues of the series.
