Writer/artist Ovi Nedelcu is the creator of the comic series Pigtale (if you haven’t read it yet, go buy it right now!), but his animation work should also be familiar, as he spent several years doing studio work for places like the Cartoon Network and the WB. His latest endeavors include the upcoming animated film, Coraline, based on Neil Gaiman’s best-selling book.

As the title implies, this is a collection of Ovi’s rough work, taken from his analog and digital sketchbooks. As such, the focus is on his process and techniques, not the finished product. He provides an introduction and supporting commentary throughout, including the reminder that “this is not a how-to book”).

Henry Selick, director of popular animated films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, as well as the previously mentioned Coraline, provides the forward.
