The Punisher Movie Special
(Marvel, 1990)
™ and ©1990 Marvel Entertainment Group
The movie may have failed, but Punisher fans will enjoy this different angle on their favorite vigilante. This story, which encompasses the Punisher’s origin, is seen largely from the point of view of Frank Castle’s police partner and best friend, Jake Berkowitz. It begins as the Punisher attempts to thwart a drug delivery to his sworn enemies, the Mafia. The police follow hot on the Punisher’s trail and eventually succeed, if only briefly, in taking him into custody. He escapes, of course, and frees a bus load of children from a crimelord, leaving in his wake, a trail of dead evildoers.
In this version of the Punisher story, even the Punisher realizes that sometimes the innocent suffer when the guilty are punished.
