Jeff Smith’s Eisner Award-winning Bone found a new home at Image Comics during the comic distributorship shake-up of 1994. Recent times had seen Marvel purchase its own distribution company (Heroes World Distribution), as a result there was a rush toward exclusive distribution deals among publishers large and small in order to assure that their books found their way to retailers’ shelves. In such turbulent times, Smith felt there was shelter for his self-published, highly popular Bone under the Image umbrella.

Image continued to print new episodes of Bone every other month while releasing this second series to reprint the Bones’ original adventures. Although the early issues of Bone had been reprinted and collected previously, this reissue series gave Image’s readers an easy way to catch up Bone’s earliest adventures.
