Break the Chain

Break the Chain is an interesting experiment, combining a comic book with an audio tape which acts out the story. It’s brought to you by artist Kyle Baker, working with a variety of vocal talents, including rap star KRS-One.

The story in Break the Chain has a definite moral. It centers around rapper Big Joe Krash and his friends Malcolm and Minasha. Minasha is a young girl who thinks it’s alright to ditch school, since she wants to become a singer someday. Krash sets her straight, however, using his songs and by introducing her to Malcolm’s grandmother, who tells her about black heritage. The message here is to break the chains of ignorance—for blacks to get in touch with their culture and realize that they have a lot to be proud of. The chains are no longer on their feet, but in the mind. To break the chain, blacks are encouraged to get energized, get educated, and get in touch with their culture.
