The Confrontation
(Sacred Origin, 1997)
™ and © 1996 Johnny M. Lopez
In the year 2000, the Almighty finally reached a limit to his infinite compassion and resolved to destroy the earth because of mankind’s evil ways. Two angels, Christian and Mercy, are shocked at God’s intention and beseech him to allow them to persuade mankind to change our ways. They are granted forty days to get results, but are unaware that the evil abroad in the land stems from a plot originating in the war against heaven at the beginning of time, or that they are critical components of that plot.
Treading a fine line between fiction and proselytization, author Johnny Lopez, attempts to exploit end-of-the-millennium fears with a heavy-handed script, (replete with “thee’s, thou’s and thy’s), that is slightly less strident than a Jack Chick tract. Artist, R. Brad Garlich is ambitious in his layouts but over-renders his figures, giving them a rather grotesque appearance.
