In the late 1950s and early 1960s, DC Comics reinvented several of their Golden Age icons for the Cold War and atomic era, ushering in what has come to be called the Silver Age of Comic Books. Two of those reconfigured heroes were the Atom: reborn as scientist Ray Palmer, who harnessed the energy of a dwarf star to shrink to microscopic size – and Hawkman: no longer a reincarnated Egyptian prince, but an alien policeman. Shortly after their debuts in Showcase and The Brave and the Bold, respectively, each hero received his own title, but flagging sales in the late 1960s led to the combining of the two series into this one, which assumed the numbering of the slightly longer-running Atom book. Some of the issues paired up the Tiny Titan and the Winged Warrior to take down a common foe, while others featured shorter solo stories. Either way, all the action took place behind fantastic covers by comics’ industry legend and longtime Hawkman artist, Joe Kubert.
