The major event of the first two volumes of ShadowHawk was our discovery that this vigilante was actually ex-district attorney Paul Johnstone. Now that the secret has been revealed, this (and presumably later) volumes are free to explore the man behind the mask. Volume three fills us in on his rocky childhood in Harlem and how he eventually turned his life around. It also tells us about the events that pushed him over the edge and into the costume of ShadowHawk. Naturally, mixed in with all this characterization is a heavy dose of action as ShadowHawk attempts to elude the Regulators, a team of super-powered thugs who have been hired to bring him in, dead or (less preferably) alive.

As a bonus to readers, this third volume also includes backup stories featuring Chance Wolf’s Valentine, and Anderson and Allred’s U.S. Male.
