Ant Boy
(Steeldragon, 1988)
™ and ©1988 Matt Feazel
It’s an all-too-familiar tale…the young boy who, orphaned at birth, was raised by wild animals. In this case, though, he was raised by ants, who brought him back to their hole, where he became champion and protector to them. Problems with humans? Scientists getting a little too close and kidnapping queens for experimentation? Predatory birds swooping in? This looks like a job for Ant Boy, and so it is. Both the art and writing give the subject the seriousness it deserves, which is to say, it’s pretty darn goofy. But through it all you get to find out how Ant Boy became the defender of truth, justice, and the ant way of life.
Many of the stories collected first saw life in other publications, but the same zany mind and artist is behind them all. Subtle spoofs of other super-hero titles abound.
