Creatures on the Loose

    (Marvel, 1971-1975)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.
Series continued from Tower of Shadows #9

Beginning with issue #10, the series, “Tower of Shadows” became “Creatures on the Loose,” trading in its stock of science-fiction/horror stories for sword and sorcery. Its first issue brought us a new character, King Kull featuring the art of Bernie Wrightson. Kull, a barbarian warrior from the lost continent of Atlantis, was very popular and later appeared in a number of series bearing his name.

Back at Creatures on the Loose, the sword and sorcery storylines continued. Issue #16 introduced us to Gullivar Jones, Warrior of Mars. In an action-filled storyline reminiscent of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Gullivar fought a host of otherworldly menaces, saving alien women from the jaws of certain death.

Later experiments at COTL included Thongor, and lastly, Manwolf. Unfortunately, neither of these caught on, and Creatures on the Loose ceased with issue #37.
