Plasmer

    (Marvel UK, 1993-1994)
Marvel UK

Doctor Oonagh Mullarky had long been a pivotal, if unrecognized character in the Marvel UK universe. She was a scientist in the employ of MyS-TECH who was responsible for many of their plots, as well as for the creation of Killpower (her son, with super-powers he got as a result of her experiments). Mullarky got her turn in the spotlight when she managed to split herself into separate good and bad beings. The bad one got a wilder haircut, and the good one became Plasmer, a super-hero.

This lighthearted mini-series is most notable for the distinctly unamusing battle it helped launch between Marvel and Defiant. To wit: Defiant had planned to name their first series “Plasm,” but Marvel sued them because Plasmer was in production and they felt the names were too close. Defiant relented and renamed their title “Warriors of Plasm,” but this was not enough to pacify Marvel, who continued with the suit and eventually lost.
